5 Months Old!

I can't believe Tommy T is 5 months old now.  The time has flown by.  He has really developed a lot in the last month.  Since I haven't had all that much time in the recent past to do a long post, I'm definitely taking the opportunity today to write about little Thomas Michael.  Prepare yourselves.
What does she mean by that?

Laughing and Shrieking like a Maniac
Tommy is quite the shrieker.  He will shriek whenever he gets the chance.  He squeals in the most high pitched eardrum breaking sound for long periods.  He thinks it's pretty funny.  I think he thinks he's saying something to us.  He expects us to shriek in return but I don't know anyone besides Mariah Carey that can get that high.

Blowing Bubbles
He's still blowing bubbles.  Or just constantly making repetitive fart noises (which is weird because his parents are so much more mature than that.)  He drools all down his face when he does it.  He needs a bib replacement every 5 minutes it seems.  Just soaks the crap out of it.  Real raw talent right there.

The Claw
Andrew created The Claw game for Tommy.  No, not from Liar Liar.  That will come a little later.  (Better change subjects before I start quoting every line from the movie... "Nothing can stop.... THE CLAW!" "You found the claw's only weakness.... SUB ZERO TEMPERATURES! EEEE! BLLPPPPHH" )
Moving on....  Like The Claw Vending Machines.
We hold Tommy by the waist and then lean him down to pick something up and he usually drops it before we can get it from him.  Typical vending machine, huh? It's quite fun.

Chewing on Blankets
One new habit Thomas the Tank has picked up is chewing on blankets, burp cloths, bibs, whatever he can get his hands on.  I think it's soothing for him.  He may be a thumb sucker and a blankie owner.  We'll see!

Socks on his Hands
He still scratches at his head even though his rash is mostly gone.  So we put socks on his hands at night.  Poor guy.  I hope he stops that habit soon.  It still wakes him up at night.  With the humidity in the air lately, he shouldn't have dry skin much longer.

First Cold
Tommy had his first official bad cold recently.  It was awful.  Everyone told me the first one would be the worst.  It was.  He was coughing, had a runny nose, was lethargic and just plain miserable.  I felt so bad for him.  I took him to the doctor to make sure it wasn't something worse.  Luckily it wasn't.  The doctor said, "Yep, just a bad cold." That's been his line lately.  "Yep, that's a rash."  "Yep, he's growing fine."  "Yep, that is most definitely a baby."  What kind of doctor are we taking him to? Dr. Spaceman from 30 Rock?

This is Tommy patiently waiting at the doctor's office.
He was quite a hit among the nurses for wearing this bib.  The Purdue nurses were chiding the IU nurse.

Holding his own Bottles
I can't believe this!  He picked it up when Gram was watching him one day.  So CUTE!

Exersaucer
He loves this toy! Thanks to the great women on my dad's side of the family for this gift.  He is obsessed with it! Thanks Aunt Kelly, Aunt Karen, Aunt Shannon and cousin Jami! He laughs every time he presses the color buttons and they say red, yellow and green in different languages.  It must be an inside joke between him and the toy.  :)
So relaxed!

Hello, Mr. Lion.

Fine Motor Skills
His fine motor skills amaze me.  There's an abacus-looking toy on the exersaucer that he LOVES to move the quarter-sized discs back and forth.  He also loves to press any and all buttons.  On his toys, on the remote, on the computer keyboard, on my phone, anything with buttons... he tries to use his little fingers to press them.
You can never have enough monkeys to bat around.

Pattycake
Who would have thought that one of the few ways we can get him to stop crying is to play pattycake? I have no idea what it is about pattycake that is so sobering but as soon as it starts, he stops crying, looks at me and smiles.

Clothes!
We cannot keep this boy clothed! He keeps growing out of everything! He's moving into 6-9 month clothes pretty quickly.  Goodness.  I hate to put away his adorable clothes but we'll just have to buy new clothes that are even cuter!

Tommy the Hillbilly
The other day at daycare, Tommy had a blow out in every single one of his outfits.  I had to bring him home in just a diaper.  I wore a scarf that day so I just wrapped him up in that and brought him home. So yeah, it's also hard to keep him in clothes for other reasons.

Rockin' an outfit from Aunt Meeghan

That's pretty much all I can think of.  He's still not rolling over yet but I know he will be pretty soon. He's getting really strong and wiggly.  He's so much fun.

HAPPY HAPPY MONTH FIVE, TOMMY T!
