TWO YEARS OLD

Special Note:  This the 500th blog post for the Thornburg Blog.  I think this is the perfect post to commemorate the 500 posts in the last 3 years.  Happy Birthday Tommy!

Dear Thomas,
You are two.  TWO!? Two.  Crazy.
You have changed so much in the last year.  You look completely different. You are no longer a chunker baby.  You are a little boy.
2 months/1 year/2 years

You love singing songs.  Your favorite song is Old MacDonald.  You throw in anything and everything when we stop after "On that farm he had a..."  Some examples are the usual cow, pig, sheep, etc.  Then you started singing "On that farm he had a LIGHTNING MCQUEEN, with a vroom vroom here!"  Then you decided that McDonald had veggie straws, with a YUM YUM here and a YUM YUM there.  You are so creative and funny.
Your other favorite songs are Twinkle, Twinkle, Baby Beluga, the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme, Baby Bumblebee.  A new favorite is Jingle Bells just in time for Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas, you had your school Christmas Show which I will detail in another post but we were so proud of your little performance.  You stood up in front of a hundred people and jingled bells like a pro.

We celebrated your birthday recently.  We were a little worried that inviting tons of people was a bad idea because you were NOT happy before your party.  Then we fed you and you were the biggest little ham for everyone.  I will get to the birthday post(s) later. :)

You are quite the little talker.  You know lots and lots of words and use them very well.  You speak some pretty complex sentences sometimes and it really surprises us.  Recently, you refused to go to bed because "I want to go downstairs and watch TV with Adam and Steeeef." Little stinker.

A couple of things that you like to do that we just adore is that you LOVE to give hugs and you say I love you now.  It sounds a lot like "I wuv you mama/dada."  It's so cute and really yanks on our heart strings.

Little Stinker.
You are a little imitator lately.  You picked up on a couple of dada's phrases much to our chagrin.  The first one was 'take a dump'.  The second one was 'pig in shit'.  Whoops.  PIG IN SIT! PIG IN SIT!! We really need to watch ourselves.  (Actually we can blame both of those on Dada)

Taking a 'selfie'.

You've started to clue us in as to what goes on in school now.  You come home saying things like 'I play with Livy today' or 'I no like Landon'.  It's so neat to hear things from your perspective instead of your teachers.

You definitely are starting to have opinions on things.  You rode with Grandpa in the tractor and on the four wheeler.  When you got off the four wheeler, you told Grandpa, "I no like that bicycle."

Just call us Parents of the Year! Yep, those are Budweiser Koozies.

As for potty training, you are not interested.  But you have peed on the potty once so far with a LOT of help (warm water, heehee).  We don't mind waiting I guess.  You'll be ready soon enough.

On Monday, we take you in for allergy testing again.  It's been a year since we found out what you were allergic to.  We're very interested to see if anything changed.
On a good night.

You have NOT been a good sleeper lately.  You've gotten a little bit too smart for your own good.  You know how to play us and it's nearly infuriating if you weren't so dang cute.  We put you to bed the  other night and you cried for an entire hour before we finally gave in.  We had to give in because you got so upset you puked all over the floor.  When we came in to get you, dada picked you up.  You pointed at me and said, "You clean up my puke!" STINKER.  Then he went with dada into our room and got in our bed.  Andrew described Tommy getting into our bed as Gollum catching a fish and being a total weirdo about it.  He was rolling and wavering about acting like a goober.  He was so happy he had won the war.  STINKER.  Here's a clip set to dubstub for your enjoyment. :)

You had your two year check up last week.  Like always, it took you a bit to warm up to the doctor.  You've had some bad experiences at the doctor so I always understand why you're afraid.  But once you warmed up, you were a complete and total stinkpot.  You gave him a high five and "knuckles" (first bump).  Then you would SING randomly.  At one point while the doctor was trying to talk to us, you sing out of nowhere, "EEEE IIIIII EEEEE IIIII OOOO!" Then did a head bob nod type thing like this...

Then you looked at the doctor and threw your book on the floor.  Even the doctor had to hide his smirk.  It was pretty funny.

Stats from the appointment-
Height: 34.25 in
Weight: 26 lbs 9.8 oz
50 percentile in everything as you have been since the day you were born so that's fantastic!

Tommy, you are my sweet little boy.  You surprise me every day with something new.  Your personality is coming out more and more each day and it cracks us up.  We are so blessed to be your parents.  Thanks for being you.

Love,
Mom
