40th Anniversary Summer Theater- Mary Poppins

Renssy has an awesome summer theater program that was put into place with an endowment.  Fourth through eighth graders participate every summer and put on a great show.  The adults help up until the night of the shows and then it's all up to the kids backstage.  Twenty years ago, my seventh grade class along with 4th through 8th graders put on Peter Pan.  They brought in a flying company and it was downright awesome, in our humble opinion.  This year for the 40th anniversary, they brought in a flying company again to perform Mary Poppins.  We had to check it out!

 The auditorium was packed!

Tommy was ready for the big show but looked like he was planning to go to Hollywood himself.

Here are some clips from the show.  So cool! Flying definitely adds a certain amount of magic, that's for sure!

The show was super cute.  The broadway version of Mary Poppins is way different than the Disney version.  Tommy enjoyed it, especially the scene with the stars.  Very magical.  His favorite part was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.  He had to have his picture taken with the girl with the pink hair who sang the song.  When she came up to get her picture with us, she said to me, "You were in Peter Pan with my Aunt Millie."  Small world! I knew exactly who she was when she said that.  Too funny!

The next day there was an alumni event.  Tiger Lilly, Wendy, Peter Pan and our director Pat got our picture taken together.

After the event, Tiger Lilly, Peter Pan and Wendy went to the bar to play "Who has the weirdest mom stuff in their purse?"  I hope I won by having an apple in mine but we all had very equally odd things.

It was a great weekend with lots of fun memories shared.  I can't believe it's been 20 years.
