Charlotte's Baptism

Charlotte got baptized in April and I'm just now sitting down to blog about it.  We waited way too long again for her to be baptized.  She had an opinion and she wasn't afraid to share it! Tiny little newborns are a lot sleepier and less combative.  Oh well.  It made for an eventful baptism.

Charlotte introduced herself to the priest that would baptize her by flipping him off inadvertently.  (It was definitely time to get her baptized!! :)
So Father Cassian asked us first thing where we thought he was before he came to St. Tom's.  We had no clue.  I guessed New York.  No, he was looking for Indiana University.  Bad start, Father.  Ha! But he was great! He then continued to quiz us on the bible, Catholicism, church traditions, the sacraments, etc, throughout the baptism.   Boy, did I realize how much I really did not know off the top of my head.  But it was extremely informative... and sweat-inducing!

It's the big moment!! Charlotte did NOT enjoy this.  Lots of screaming.  Such a holy moment. :)  My Aunt Shiela did a WONDERFUL job taking pictures.  I wish I could have included all of them.  They were all so good.  But my computer is being horribly slow so I had to pare down a bit.  :(

She was anointed with the oils. Do you know which sacraments involve oils?  Baptism, Confirmation, Ordination, and Anointing of the Sick.  I know that NOW anyway.  Ordination was the one we couldn't think of.  Charlotte was not a fan.

I really enjoy this church.  It's so unique and nothing like any other churches I've attended.

During the ceremony, Tommy didn't sit still.  He made use of the space at the front of the church.

The one key moment I definitely have to document is that when Father Cassian announced she was baptized and everyone could give her a hand, Charlotte turned around and looked at everyone clapping... and started clapping herself.  After whining, crying or screaming through the ceremony, she was clapping all excited.  Father Cassian thought this was the funniest thing ever! He laughed so hard! My Aunt captured the moment perfectly!! Love this picture!

Charlotte had a pretty sour face basically until we left the church.  But we got our family photos anyway!

Here's Charlotte with her Godparents, Uncles Brandon and Adam and Aunts Erin and Cait.  Aww!

Charlotte's delish red velvet baptism cake! YUM!

She really did love it! She still has the oils in her hair which is why she looked a bit greasy. ;)

Then it was time for some bad to the bone Mater driving.  Little holy stinker.

Another awesome pic captured by Shiela that I had to include.  Tommy discovering the backyard.
It was seriously a lovely day to get family together to celebrate this important event.
Happy Baptism, Charlotte!

Thomas Michael, Baptized

On Saturday, we had Tommy baptized.  A big day! We had him baptized at the same church where we did our pre-cana, where Wyatt was baptized, and where Wyatt's Aunt Claire got married.
Here's the man of the hour.

At first, he tried to escape.  :-)  But then he settled in for the ceremony with his parents and Godparents Travis and Traci.

We all got to bless the little man with a cross to the forehead.

During the ceremony, Tommy got a little restless so I fed him a steady diet of cheerios to keep him occupied.  One of the cheerios got loose and fell into the marble basin you can see above.  Travis said, "That is one holy Cheerio."  Luckily it fell into the part that didn't have holy water in it so I was able to pick it up.
During the ceremonies, there is a part where Father Joseph says two prayers of Exorcism.  During this exact moment, Tommy choked on a cheerio and almost threw up.  Both Andrew and I had visions of green pea soup soaking Father Joseph's vestments. Don't worry, Tommy was a good boy and kept it all down. :-)

Also during the ceremony Tommy decided to reach over and shut Father Joseph's book.  Even he got a good chuckle out of it.
Good thing he had bookmarks.  :-)

It was almost time for the dunking!

Tommy was quite afraid of what was going to happen.

Until he realized it was just like a bath.  No big deal!
Then he wanted to get in the water!
He blessed him with oils.  The fragrance stuck with him for days.
 He blessed mom...
 and dad...
 and the Godparents.
Then it was all over.
Traci and Tommy got some quality time after the ceremony.

Then we posed for some pictures.
Tommy posing with Gram and Pop.

Parents and Godparents and Godbrother Wyatt.
Godparents only.  This was the last picture because Tommy was totally donesies with just about everything at this point.
We came back to our house ate food while Tommy napped.  I told Andrew to get a cake that said, "Baptized by Fire" like the Spinnerette song but it wasn't really appropriate for the occasion.

When he finally woke up, he opened his presents.

What a big baptized boy!

Wyatt's Baptism Weekend

Wyatt Wayne (or W2 as the Thornburgs sometimes call him) was baptized this weekend.  Andrew was asked to be his godfather and he gladly accepted the honor.  He was baptized at St. Tom's in West Lafayette which has special meaning for us because that's where we did our Pre Cana.  The same woman who did our Pre Cana does baptisms too I guess.

Well anyway, back to the story of our weekend-- it's Road Trip Time!
Tommy is not very fond of his car seat which is just awful.  He just cries and cries. He used to cry himself to sleep but he didn't this time. The only thing that would calm him down was if I would blow on his face.

Annnddd that made me a little dizzy but hey, he slept! Thank goodness!

We also stopped at Culver's where Tommy hung out and tried to pick up chicks...

On to the baptism...
I love this picture.  So cute!

Wyatt really enjoyed the ceremony.  I mean, seriously, churches have so much stuff to climb on! Here's Wyatt with Grandpa Kevin, or as my brother knows him: the Mayor of Munchkin Land.

He's about to be anointed with the oils. (Hey at least they don't use butter anymore.)  Father (?? didn't catch his name) did a great job and explained the back story to all the traditions and why they do the things they do.  It was interesting to hear the hows and the whys.

Godfather and godson waiting for the holy water.

Almost Dunkin' Time!

He's in!

Time to dry off.  Definitely not as fun as a bath but it wasn't too bad.

Tommy made it through the ceremony but quickly conked out shortly after.

We went to Nine Irish Bros afterward but Tommy didn't last long there.  (Yes, Tommy got to go into his first BAR! Yay!)
So promptly made our way back to Grandma and Grandpa's house where we had a quick photo shoot before making our way back to South Bend.

Grandma got him a new hat. Look at that chubster!

When did he fill out? Like an hour ago? I seriously missed it.  Look at those cheeks!

And that belly! When did that happen? He's changing before our eyes!

We also put him in his new outfit from Aunt Erin so Andrew can have a new facebook picture

What a big boy!

Tummy time for our little M&M.

My favorite picture from the weekend:
Sleepy boys.
