Summer Vacation 2015 Day 1!

My parents decided once again to take their entire family on vacation.  We all live fairly close and yet it's still hard to spend time all together so this is an awesome way to do it.  Vacation was supposed to start Sunday but we decided to take off a day early and visit the old FW.

The kids and I visited Meijer before the trip.  I told them to pick out a book.  I was going to try to get through an extended car ride without electronic devices.  One book, one toy, and that's all you get.  Look out the window, kids! There's a whole world out there that you're missing!

We made it to Fort Wayne to visit their zoo.  The kids were stylishly stoked! Man, was it hot!

We rode the Sky Ride which was absolutely terrifying.

Why? It's terrifying to take a two year old who keeps saying "JUMP! JUMP!" when we're 100 feet off the ground.  OMG, child.
Then she decided to mouth the germ-covered handle bar.  Bleh!

Tommy and Dada had a good time! They were one chair ahead of us.

Tommy decided he would be our tour guide.  He's a big fan of maps.

We saw Charlotte's favorite, the zebras.  Tommy's favorite was the lion.

They enjoyed the camp site.  Took a quick rest on the cots.

They played the bongos and had quite a rhythm going.

They played in the egg shells which made for a super cute instagram-worthy photo.

Then we decided to cut our losses and head back to the hotel.  Mama and Dada were hotter than blue blazes and the kids were slowing down.

Charlotte got a quick nap in the car on the way to the hotel.  That's what happens when you don't nap on the ride up.  Neither kid slept in the car hardly at all.  Gah!

The hotel pool was hoppin!! A hot tub and a big pool? The kids were so excited!

Charlotte couldn't decide which pool she would rather be in.  She kept climbing from one to the other.

After swim city, we went to Buffalo Wild Wings.  They have an allergy menu! Plus milk/egg free chicken tenders! YEAH!

Charlotte took this opportunity to protest the whole day.  She loves to lay on the floor at the most inopportune time.  Thanks for that, Char.

I tried to entertain her with selfies.  It worked!

After dinner, we needed ice cream.  I found a Red Mango not too far away.  Yay for iPhones and technology and dairy-free ice creams!! Whoo hoo! #familyselfie

 Charlotte LOVED her ice cream.

 Actually they both did.

They both loved it so much that they got it all over their face, in their hair, on their necks, their clothes, their LEGS?? I don't know how that all happened but it sure drew attention from people walking by at the mall.

We did not have the diaper bag with us at this point.  Charlotte face looked a lot like her diaper area so we had to MOVE IT back to the hotel to get all cleaned up.  We took their clothes and put them in a garbage bag for the rest of the trip.
We had a great first day of vacation.  Stay tuned for more!

Milestones!

Soooooo potty training.  How 'bout dem apples, eh? The worst.  We've been working on it for about a year now.  Things are going well with only a few accidents here and there.  The hardest part has been the  number 2's.   He also decided a month ago that he was too big to wear pull-ups at night.  So we had to do a lot of talking to convincing him to get out of bed at night to go.

But he finally started to get out of bed at night!! Hooray!! It scares the crap out of me every time but I'm super proud!

For his efforts, he was rewarded with a giant foam sword.  What every kid wants! :)

Another reward we've been using is ice cream.  Ice cream for a kid with a dairy allergy?  QuĂ©?? Yep.  Not only ice cream but chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream! It's made out of coconut milk.  It's pretty tasty but you have to be able to deal with the coconut flavor.  He LOVES it.  It's kind of crazy that this ice cream has no milk, eggs, or peanuts.  I'm always excited about new delicious treats.  Also how funny is Charlotte throwing in a photobomb?

So wish Tommy luck to get through this final step of potty training.  I know he can do it.  We just have to get over the hump.  Night time potty training is super fun! :)

ICE CREAM????

Andrew found some soy ice cream bars at Target.  We figure it was high time for Tommy to try some ice cream.

The fact that Drew and Brittany Brees are spokespeople for the company doesn't hurt either.

I tell ya, the faces he made while eating ice cream for the first time were definitely worth the mess!

Turns out, eating ice cream is a pretty surreal experience!
