Movie Saturday: Version Smurfs

 We didn't have anything to do on a Saturday and we decided last minute to go see Smurfs at like 8 pm.  So we took THOR...

 and Miss Fur Vest and went to Cheddars.  It was prom weekend so you can see some fancy dresses behind the kiddos.

 Mama needed a drink if she was going to get through the Smurfs situation.  This drink is limited to two per customer due to the strength of the alcohol.  I only went for one but I'm glad I did. :)

 The kids set themselves up with candy and booster seats and enjoyed the show.

We even stayed after the credits because there was still action going on on the bottom of the screen.  I have no idea why Tommy's one pant leg is up.  Too funny.

Even if I had to see Smurfs (which they were able to pull Julia Roberts in for that movie by the way, WHAT?), it was still a hilarious and fun little Saturday.

Second Successful Movie: The Good Dinosaur

 We took the kids to see a movie today! Andrew and I both took off early Friday afternoon and we picked up the kids and off to the movie we went.  The kids had a rough week recovering from the Thanksgiving so we thought they could use a little pick me up.

 We picked out candy because duh.  Andrew got popcorn too.  It was a big event.  Tommy picked twizzlers and Charlotte picked M&M's.  Or as she calls them, M's.

 I don't know how you would know this girl likes candy.  Yes, her shirt says 'Expert Candy Taster.' Our girl LOVES candy.  She is totally obsessed.  I love it! It's so funny.  So I had to add this picture of her candy shirt with a side of cheese. 

We had the entire theater to ourselves which was AWESOME because Charlotte talked through the entire movie.  What's that, Mama? Where'd he go, Mama? Why he runnin', Mama? I love dinosaurs! More M's, Mama! I dropped my M's, Mama! Mama, I need a dwink. 
And on and on throughout the movie.  It did not bother Tommy's movie going experience.  He loved it.  He laughed LOUDLY several times.  It was pretty cute. 
Charlotte was pretty freaked out by the previews before the movie.  They were pretty intense if they were supposed to be for kids.  But once the movie started, it was much better and she actually watched instead of burying her face in my lap.  Yay! Success!!

A great time was had by all and the kids love dinosaurs even more now! If you need a quick review, it had emotional moments but I did not sob through this movie like I did during Inside Out.  It was pretty cute though. 

4th of July Pool Time 2015

We had no plans for the 4th of July and we were so excited to do nothing!

We got an inflatable pool for the kids and boy, were they excited!

They immediately started in on the tricks with their slide.


I don't know how many times I heard "My turn!! My turn!!"  Or when Charlotte says it, it sounds more like "My tuhn! My tuhn!!!"


They had so much fun! It was really cold water and the weather wasn't that nice out but they didn't care!!


Charlotte took a break every once in awhile to imitate Tommy. Ha!



Her face going down the slide was hilarious!


Tommy was a sliding fool too!


We finally convinced the kids to take a break and go see a movie. We saw Inside Out. It was really good. It was all about what happens in the brain during childhood and adolescence. Very brilliantly done.  Tommy did awesome.  Charlotte actually did really well too for her first movie.  She got a little antsy but never had to be removed from the theater.  Yay for Charlotte and yay for us for learning from our last experience.


After the movie, we stopped by Target. Charlotte refused to leave until she got this Elsa doll. Already?? Are you kidding me? But it plays Let It Go.  I hoped they would be over that song by now.  They. Are. Not.  Charlotte won that round and now it's her new favorite thing in the whole wide world.


Then we set off some fireworks. Tommy liked them. Charlotte was terrified.


I don't know why she was terrified. They don't look very menacing to me. :)

Catch Up Post for Tommy T

 Tommy T.  Oh my dear sweet boy.  He loves his little sister like she's all his. She is definitely his favorite person right now. 

He is so sweet with her. 

He loves doing things for her, like reading books! She has complete and total trust in him too.  She loves everything he does, even when he's poking her in the eye.  It's hilarious.  Just a huge smile whenever he's around. 

It ain't easy being cheesy! I have a feeling there will be many more pictures like this in the future!

 Tommy went to a Purdue game recently, just him and Dada.  They had a great father/son night.
 

Did you know the double chocolate Ghirardelli brownies have no milk or eggs in them unless you add them? So I substituted applesauce for the one egg and VIOLA! Brownies for Tommy! They're not exactly the same but they're so close!! He had so much fun stirring the bowl and licking the spoon. First time I've ever had him do that.  It was exciting!

Tommy's new fave movie is Hercules, or as he calls it, 'Perkalee'.  Tommy was singing one of the songs from the movie and said, "I can make my wayyyyy. I can go to the dentist!" HA! Distance, that is.  But dentist works too. 

He's starting to learn and recognize his letters.  He knows D is for Dada.  M is for Mama and Morgan.  W is for upside down Mama (Hey however he wants to remember these letters, we encourage it!).  He knows C is for Charlotte.  T is for Tommy T and T Rex.  P is for Purdue Pete.  J is an upside down candy cane.  V is for Vulture.  H is for Helicopter.  He recognizes N but I can never remember any words for that besides No.  O is an easy one for him, probably since they just learned it last week.  He also knows some of his months and the days of the week.  It's amazing the things he's learning and retaining.  I can't believe it won't be long before he's reading!!! Time is going so fast!

First Movie for Tommy Hawk

We made a rash decision to take Tommy to see Monsters University at the movie theatre today.  We experimented by watching Monsters Inc first at home and it didn't go well so I'm not really sure why we thought this would go well.  

 I wanted to take his picture on the way to the theater but of course his natural response is, "I don't want to smile!"  Good sign!

 We brought our own snacks for T-man, of course: kettle korn (no butter!), grapes, and veggie straws.

 Things were going wonderfully at the beginning! Family movie time! I was so excited! He even curled up on Dada's lap for a good portion of the movie.  We thought it was going to be a really great experience.

Then about 45 minutes into the movie, he did NOT want to sit still anymore.  He also wanted to talk loudly, stand in the aisles, then he threw a fit when we wanted him to stop.  A really loud screaming fit in a dark small movie theatre.  He was promptly removed by me.  Dada followed shortly.

Yay First Movie!! 

In fact, of all 3 places we went that day, he had to be carried out screaming from all of them. Yay terrible twos! But the Chickfila experience was not his fault.  Some jerky 8 year old was picking on Tommy until he cried in the play place where we couldn't get to him. So that was awesome.
Parents! You have to be present with your kid in the play place so they don't act like a-holes like that kid.  Grrrr.  Or maybe just don't raise an a-hole kid.  How about that?

Anyway, what a wonderful day we had.  Hoping tomorrow is a better day. 

Mickey and Disney Stuff

I was able to snap ONE picture of Tommy in his Mickey hat so far.  You can tell he's aching to take it off as soon as possible. 

 Most of the time he keeps his Mickey hat on top of his humidifier.  That's a good place for it.

 Glory be to the highest, we have FINALLY moved on from the Cars movies.  Tommy has taken an interest in LION KING.  WHOO HOO!!

 He loves dancing to "I Just Can't Wait to be King" but you can see that he is wearing his Lightning McQueen gloves in both pictures.

I have to fast forward to the songs.  The kiddo is still not interested in sitting through a whole movie just yet. Andrew says, "He is the only kid I know who would rather stop watching a movie to go read books."
We're crossing our fingers that we'll be able to take him to see Planes in the theater this summer.  I mean, they sample White Zombie in the trailer.  Hopefully it's worth the price!

From Balls to Cars

Tommy is starting to show interest in cars.  He rides in the car and points at every vehicle that goes by and says "CAHHH!" in the highest pitch you can imagine.

So what do new parents do when that happens? Of course we went to Target and bought the movie Cars.  We know lots of 2 year olds that enjoy the movie so we thought we'd give it a try.

We brought it home and turned it on...

He quickly turned his attention to something else after about 20 seconds.  But hey, he looked like he really enjoyed it for awhile!
