Charlotte's First Major Injury

It was Saturday a couple weekends ago.  I was heading to a wedding shower with Charlotte.  Andrew was heading to a Purdue football game with Tommy.  Andrew left before I was ready so Charlotte was with me in the bathroom.  I normally remember to pull the cords up so Charlotte won't grab them but of course the ONE TIME I forget, she grabs the cord to my curling iron and she pulls it down.  I grab the curling iron and set it back on the counter and let go but I didn't realize that Charlotte still had the cord in her hand.  She pulled it down again and the barrel of the curling iron rolled down her leg.
She. Was. Pissed.
I put cold water on it and tried to calm her down.  She really didn't cry that long.  She was very clingy  though after that.  She ended up being in a pretty good mood so I decided to go to the shower and call the doctor on the way there, just in case.  All the offices were closed so I talked to someone on some Nurse Line.  I answered all of her questions. After the spanish inquisition, she told me to take her to the emergency room.
Now with my first child, I definitely would have gone to the emergency room.  However, when I did, they told me Tommy probably had cystic fibrosis (when in fact, it was just a constipation issue) so I try to avoid the ER at all costs.  So I tried to WebMD myself out of having to go to the ER with a baby.  She was in a really great mood the rest of the day.  She never had a fever.  The burn only blistered in two tiny places.  I called two medical professionals in my circle of trust and they confirmed that I could get away with home treatment.  We lubed up the wound with neosporin, kept it bandaged, and waited until Monday when I could see her pediatrician.

Look at her! Tough as nails! She had a great time at the shower.

It was a dessert shower.  She loved the treats!

I picked out a mini cupcake for her but she grabbed the cream puff off my plate and shoved it in her mouth.  She's a woman who knows what she wants! Poke that puff! :)

The picture on the left is in the afternoon a few hours after it happened.  The picture in the middle is the next day.  The picture on the right is later in the week when the blisters opened it was pretty gross.
The pediatrician was the one that pointed out that it actually rolled down her leg. I thought it landed longways but he said you can see where the opening of the curling iron hit from the two lines on each side of the burn.  Poor baby. :(

This is the burn yesterday.  All the burned skin is peeling off and it's healing really well.  It's too bad it had to happen right before her birthday! Oh well. Memories, right?

So to summarize, we get an F- in babyproofing, an A in Wound Management, and we now know Charlotte is one tough little chica.

Weekend in Syracuse

This weekend we headed up to Syracuse for some fun!
Tommy did not sleep on the way up.  He has completely forgotten how to sleep in the car.  Instead he just sings and talks until we get there.

We checked in for the weekend at the Oakwood Hotel. Our room was upgraded and AWESOME.  In fact, it's the show room on the website, if you look it up.

It was nice to have a separate room for the beds. Tommy enjoyed running around in it pants-less.

He did a LOT of running in our room.  You can't blame him! There was so much space!

We went swimming in a lake for the second week in a row. Tommy LOVED IT.  He's getting really good at maneuvering around in his floaties and ninja turtles intertube.

He's also good at using squirt toys too!

This is the view from the swimming dock to our room.  Our room is on the far left side of the building, second window up.
The swimming dock was super nice.  We even convinced Tommy to jump off a few times!

Gaga and Pop invited us over that night and we ate some yummy burgers on the grill.

The next day was Erin's shower.  They played a "How well do you know each other?" game.  Turns out, they know each other pretty well! I think they ended up getting almost all their questions right. Good work, Future Bride and Groom!

The T-Burg kids posed for a pic during the shower.  Aww!

Tommy had SOOO much fun playing with his cousins.  They took him everywhere and showed him everything.  He followed and played and loved every minute.

He also loved playing with his buddy Addi who are both two and a half.  He hasn't seen her in over a year.
This next picture is from the last time they were together.
They were 18 months old at this point.  A lot less hair between the two of them!
And then the year before that, they hung out at around 6 months!
Awww, sweet babies!

So on Sunday morning, Tommy woke up at 6:30 ready to rock and roll.  We almost had him convinced to go back to sleep when the Lake Mass Church Service began.  The gospel singing and preaching was SUPER LOUD and there was no sleeping for anyone after that point.  It's a really cool thing that they do though, I do have to say.  Everyone drives their boats and they can attend church on the lake. There are people that drive around with big long poles and baskets to collect the offerings. All on boats! Cool!  But let me reiterate that it was extremely loud.  We felt sorry for the late night partiers from the wedding at the hotel the night before.

Tommy posed for a quick pic before we checked out.  He really was king of his castle in this place. :)

After no naps all weekend and not enough sleep during the night, he fell asleep on the way home after about 15 minutes.

Once we got home we had some cake for Dada's b-day.  Look at that chocolate mustache! Very hipster!

It didn't take long for Tommy to destroy the living room before bed.

We had such a good time this weekend seeing everyone at the shower and playing in the water.  Lots of fun was had by all!

Erin's Illinois Bridal Shower

Over the weekend, I drove up to Wheeling, IL, for Erin's Bridal Shower.
I thought I was going to be late because I couldn't leave this little cutie with the crazy hair! But the drive was amazingly smooth.  It went super fast and I ended up getting there early. Phew!

Erin and her bridesmaids posed for pictures.

Then she and her Zeta sisters took a picture 'throwing the crown' which also happens to be the hand sign for the latin kings, I believe.  Awkward! :-)

One of Erin's friends took the bottle that she and Doug drank from the night they got engaged and made it into this super cool centerpiece.

Another super sweet thing her friends did for her was put together this milestone gift.  There was a bottle of wine for each milestone they would experience (wedding night, first Christmas, first fight, first anniversary, first baby, etc).  At each milestone they are to pop open the bottle and celebrate the milestone.

Attached to each bottle was a poem about the milestone.  They read each one at the table.  It was so thoughtful.

The favors were cupcakes in mason jars with a tag that read 'Love is Sweet.'

The shower was held at Cooper Hawk and this was the menu.  It was super delish!! I had the chicken. It was really tasty.

We played some celebrity wedding trivia games and the "he said/she said" game.  You can see Cait modeling the Doug response stick for the he said/she said game.

Then it was time to open presents!

My gift was the last to be opened.  She got a lot of really wonderful stuff! Lots of Crate and Barrel! Sa-weet!

Then one of her bridesmaids made this bouquet from all the bows on her gifts.  Now that's talent! Look at that thing!! Professional!

Erin is so lucky to have such thoughtful, talented and creative friends.  Everyone had so much fun celebrating Erin's upcoming nuptials.  Only four months to go!

Easter Weekend 2012

Andrew was gone Friday night of Easter weekend so I packed up little Tommy Hawk (and pretty much EVERYTHING WE OWN) and headed to Rensselaer.
Tommy wasn't used to the longer ride in the car (since his ride to daycare is literally 5 minutes) but he enjoyed it nonetheless.

When we got there, Tommy enjoyed watching Grandpa mow the yard.

We spent the night.  This was the best and cutest possible face to wake up to the next morning.  Look at that crazy hair!

Just kidding.  His hair gets crazier! A mowhawk for Tommy Hawk! He was not excited about getting his picture taken.

Side view! He knows he looks good!

Even though I brought almost everything in our house, I did not remember any bath toys so we had to improvise.  Measuring cups and shampoo bottles did the trick.

Saturday morning I went to my friend's wedding shower.  I got to see some of my high school friends.  It was fantastic to catch up with them.

There's the happy bride and groom! It was great to meet her future husband.  Can't wait for the wedding this summer!

While I was at the shower, Tommy spent some quality time with the pedal firetruck.  His legs aren't quite long enough to reach the pedals but he LOVED pushing it around in circles.  So cute.

Then came Easter morning... and Tommy got his first Easter basket! What do you get the kid who can't have candy?? Cheerios, of course! They came in super handy during church until I spilled them all over the floor.  Whoops.

Then we had our Easter meal.  I tried to get creative with the deviled eggs.
I saw this picture on Pinterest and I thought I'd give it a try...

NAILED IT.  Haha! They got a little melty.  They look like little melting yellow Popes.  Poor things.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!
