A New Cousin: Wyatt Charles is Born!

The Hartleys, Aunt Erin and Uncle Doug, welcomed their bouncing baby boy into the world on September 2nd.  He was 7 lbs 14 oz, 22 inches and has blonde hair.  His name is Wyatt Charles.
Sorry for the late post! He's the best!

This is my favorite picture so far.  Not just because he's wearing the Purdue blanket we got him but he's also wearing Tommy and Charlotte's newborn cap.   Awwww, sweet baby.

We went to visit Baby Cousin Wyatt over Labor Day weekend.
I didn't know what she might need so I packed up all my old crap and brought her, hopefully, some stuff she could use.

Ahh squishy babies are the best! He's so little!!

Charlotte was obsessed! She seems so giant next to him.  She kept calling him Baby Kyatt.

Tommy also loved him, of course.  How could you not?

Then he pooped on him.  This was the reaction shot the moment it happened.  So funny!

Charlotte took another turn holding him.  She was such a big girl holding! She probably could have held him all night.

But the kids did eventually get really antsy so we went out in the backyard and played with Cooper the dog.
I had to get a sunburst pic of Tom and Coop.

Love the colors in this one.  Especially her eyes.

Look at that hair! It's so light! The kids couldn't stop playing with his feet.  So funny.

On the way home, I got a notification from WLFI that they were opening I-65 back up in about an hour.  We wondered if they went ahead and opened it.  So we drove by it and the barriers had been moved.  We turned the car around and headed back to the interstate and hopped on.  There wasn't a car in sight for 35 miles!!! We were completely by ourselves.  We had a feeling all the cars on the other side of the road were staring us down.  One truck stopped on the overpass to look at us driving by.  Too funny.   It was a very exciting day for many reasons.
Happy Birthday, Baby Wyatt!

Purdue Spring Game and Bug Bowl 2014

Last Saturday it was a B-E-A-YOOOO-tiful day.  Seriously.  Gorgeous.  So we went to the Purdue Spring Foozball game (just like last year only the weather was a little different).
Tommy picked out his outfit, obvi.  He's such a trendsetter.  Oh and yes he is wearing his sunglasses upside down.

They were adult-sized sunglasses and they didn't fit very well.  He refused to take his hand off them because he didn't want them to fall down.  Too funny.

Down in the end zone, they had a Purdue celebrity cook off.  Mike Alstott is on the right.  Rosevelt Colvin is in black in the back.  Not sure who the other people are though.

In other celebrity news, we ran into Mike Hoffman (we remember him from our South Bend days) so Erin and Doug took a picture of him with Flat Charlie.

Tommy enjoyed running around on the field.

Then he enjoyed some lunch in the stands.

Sister-in-law picture in the stands! Go Boilers! (Totally stole this picture)

The view from the stands was phenomenal.  Field looks GREAT.

I tried to convince Tommy to get his picture taken with the Drew Brees bobble head.  Instead I ended up with Tommy taking MY picture.

Tommy quickly got bored with the foozball game so we headed over to the Bug Bowl and Springfest.
We meandered through the tents and saw this poor cow.  She sneezed when I wasn't expecting it and it scared the crap out of me.  Also, we have imitated their pathetic moos since Saturday.  It wasn't so much a "MOOOOOO" but a "UUUHHHHGGGGHHUUUUUOOOOOOOOO". But if you were livestock getting milked by random children all day in a hot tent, you might be complaining too.

Then it was time for Tommy's favorite part.... BUGS!!   Gross.  Not my favorite part.

The blue glowing butterflies were pretty darn cool though.

Yes.  This is what you think it is.  Andrew was stopping Tommy from ripping off the lid of the tarantula cage. Bllleeecchhhh.  But he was super excited.

This was some sort of lizard thingy.  Tommy got to pet it.  So did I.  I liked this non-jumpy being a lot better than dead bugs with pins stuck through them.  No clue why.  He was a calm and chill little guy, maybe that's why.

We had a great time yet again! Fun times at our alma mater.

Erin's Illinois Bridal Shower

Over the weekend, I drove up to Wheeling, IL, for Erin's Bridal Shower.
I thought I was going to be late because I couldn't leave this little cutie with the crazy hair! But the drive was amazingly smooth.  It went super fast and I ended up getting there early. Phew!

Erin and her bridesmaids posed for pictures.

Then she and her Zeta sisters took a picture 'throwing the crown' which also happens to be the hand sign for the latin kings, I believe.  Awkward! :-)

One of Erin's friends took the bottle that she and Doug drank from the night they got engaged and made it into this super cool centerpiece.

Another super sweet thing her friends did for her was put together this milestone gift.  There was a bottle of wine for each milestone they would experience (wedding night, first Christmas, first fight, first anniversary, first baby, etc).  At each milestone they are to pop open the bottle and celebrate the milestone.

Attached to each bottle was a poem about the milestone.  They read each one at the table.  It was so thoughtful.

The favors were cupcakes in mason jars with a tag that read 'Love is Sweet.'

The shower was held at Cooper Hawk and this was the menu.  It was super delish!! I had the chicken. It was really tasty.

We played some celebrity wedding trivia games and the "he said/she said" game.  You can see Cait modeling the Doug response stick for the he said/she said game.

Then it was time to open presents!

My gift was the last to be opened.  She got a lot of really wonderful stuff! Lots of Crate and Barrel! Sa-weet!

Then one of her bridesmaids made this bouquet from all the bows on her gifts.  Now that's talent! Look at that thing!! Professional!

Erin is so lucky to have such thoughtful, talented and creative friends.  Everyone had so much fun celebrating Erin's upcoming nuptials.  Only four months to go!

Thornburg Family Get-Together

Last weekend, we drove up to Syracuse to see a significant portion of the Thornburg family.  It was great! Andrew's aunt flew in from Colorado.  Andrew's uncle and aunt came down from Michigan. We all met at the Channel Marker for dinner to gather and celebrate. We had an awesome reason to celebrate...
Andrew's sister Erin and Doug got engaged! Hooray! We are so happy for these two!

I totally bogarted these pictures from Facebook, obviously.  Sorry, Erin. :) Hope you don't mind! But CONGRATS!! :)

So we gathered at the restaurant to eat, drink and be merry.
Tommy met some of these family members for the first time!

He loved playing with his cousins (second cousins? twice removed, once over easy cousins? No clue).

We took some family pictures by the lake.

Here are all the siblings together.  Tommy's Pop, John, Jenny and Jill

Here's Gram, Pop and Tommy who's not too sure about getting his picture taken.

This one is a little better.

Here's the only Thornburg immediate family pic (along with Eli) for which we obviously were not ready.

Tommy loves boats so he led dada onto the pier and tried to get on some stranger's boat.  He knows what he wants I guess. :)

After dinner, we went to Jenny's house to play and have dessert.  Tommy was thrilled with Pop pushing him around on the trike.

Then Pop pushed Tommy on the swing...

Then he pushed him on another swing! I bet Pop was tired!

We finally convinced Tommy to come inside. Aunt Jenny bought his favorite, veggie chips, so he munched on those.

 MORE VEGGIE CHIPS, PLEASE!!

 Aww, sweet moment with Gram.

Then it was time to play Cookie Cop with Lydia.

Tommy had such a great time seeing family this weekend.  We were so glad we were able to make it to see everyone.  Especially when we have something so exciting to celebrate.  Congrats again to Erin and Doug!
