House Update: Baby Applesauce's Room

On Sunday we decided to FINALLY finish up Applesauce's room.  I haven't posted anything about what we've been doing so I have a lot to catch up on.
Let's go back to where we started... all the way back to the day when we bought our house (two years ago this fall).

So this is what our house looked like when we bought it.  Ugh, that's a LOT of white paint. :-)  You can see railing of the stairs extends to the open area at the top of the stairs.  We decided we needed an extra bedroom upstairs so we closed that part in.

This is how it used to look from the open area looking toward our bedroom.  (Look at how little Tommy was- 10 months).

So back in APRIL, we started construction.  Well not WE but the people we hired.  Frame is up!

 Drywall too!
Now the paint! It really fits in well in the house, like there was always supposed to be a bedroom there. Wonderfully perfect.

So now it's a baby's room! We hope Applesauce likes it!

Curtains from Target... because we don't know that other stores exist.  The trusty ol' boppy is from when Tommy was little.  She does have two new pink stuffed toys waiting for her in her crib that will be ALL HERS.  No hand-me-downs there!

We moved over all of Tommy's baby furniture.  Tommy got a new set.  We'll have to show you that in a future post.

I made the pennant banner from different ideas on Pinterest.

I found a couple of posters also on Pinterest that I totally copied and plan to hang on the wall somewhere.  For now they are sitting on the dresser.  You can see the Star piggy bank that a friend of mine got for Tommy.  We already had a blue pig piggy bank for him so now we can use the star for Applesauce.
Also I got a little hat rack when I was shopping on Saturday for all the headbands and hats that Applesauce will wear.  Whee!

This is the new view when you go to exit the room.  The closet is on the right.  I hope Applesauce can handle having a small closet for awhile.

Another hand-me-down that worked out almost too perfectly is this calendar.  We received two calendars at Tommy's baby shower(s).  Again, we used the blue one (just like the piggy bank) and the yellow and purple one will be used for Applesauce! Nice! Crazy how well it matches.  I did NOT do that on purpose either.
The star hanger is something I picked up at a resale shop while shopping on Saturday.

Hope the baby likes Wi-Fi!
So the final touch is that we have to move the Wi-Fi and router out of the baby's room and into a more open space.  As much as it really adds to the decor of the baby room, I will be so excited to get it out of there! :-)

So that's what we've done so far.  We'll have only a few minor updates from here on out but we wanted to get all the big stuff done now.  Only 6.5 weeks to go!  Getting excited!

Moving Out

What's that you say? Yes, the Thornburgs are moving!

You may remember some time back (this post), that Andrew got a promotion.  I cannot believe that was a year and half ago! So he was promoted to manage the entire state of Indiana.  Our supremely northern location has not been conducive to the new total area that he has to cover.  He has been gone a lot.  It wasn't so bad when it was just me. (Who wants to be around a pregnant broad anyway?) But when Tommy was born, it got a lot harder.  He got a lot busier (good for business) and needed to be away more (bad for family).  So we decided we needed to move.  But I needed to find a job first.  Shortly after we decided to move, a county office opened up in Delphi.  I applied for it and got the job officially last Friday.  Very exciting times for the Thornburgs!

We listed the house on the market a month ago when I applied because it is prime house hunting season.
That's what all that red door painting was about.

So this is what the house looked like when we listed it...
This is what it looks like a month later...
Jeez! Where did the house go? Leaftastic! But the flowers look amazing now.  Everything is so lush and green.
But luckily we're moving now and not this fall when we would have to deal with THIS.

We are very sad to leave this house.  We've done soooooo much work to it.  If you haven't been reading this blog very long, you need to review these posts or click on the House tag when you see it.  I was NOT kidding when I said we have done lots of work!

Want to see what our house looked like the day of inspection before we bought it?
That was in April or May! Good ol' great white north.  I won't miss that about this area!

Here are some other pictures from the day of inspection.  I'm so glad our moms were smart enough to bring cameras that day.  We weren't!

This was the living room before we moved in...
 This is after...

This is another view...

Just when we got the house exactly how we want it, we decide to move.  So sad.  But we are looking forward to moving closer to Purdue again.  That will be fun. Tommy will be able to attend his first football and basketball games.  I have a feeling he will love them! :)

So... anyone want to buy a house in South Bend????

Weekend at the Thornburgs

This weekend was beautiful FINALLY.  We were able to go outside and not shiver.  It was lovely.
We decided to take advantage and grilled out.  We even ate outside!

We brought Tommy out in his bouncy seat.  We had the XM Radio playing on the iPad.  We had candles (Citronella, but they didn't really work).  Steak, salads, baked potatoes, peas... YUM!

Tommy didn't really know what to think of the whole ordeal.

Brian was bad (barking at the neighbors) so he had to stay inside.  "Maybe I can lick my way outside..."

Can you tell the wind was blowing? There's salt and pepper all over the table and my water glass.
The dang mosquitoes started to get really bad so we had to move it inside.
But it turned out to be a nice little Saturday evening at the Thornburgs.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Halloween is my favorite holiday but we only had plans to stay home and work on the house.  Boo!
I guess you could say it's our SCAAAARRRIIIEEESSSTTT Halloween yet... we're becoming PARENTS!! WOOOOOOO!!! Scary!! :)

So we (and by we, I mean Andrew) ripped up the carpet for the new carpet install next week.  Fun times were had by all (and by all, I mean no one).  Andrew cut himself and bled all over.  But that just adds to the love that we're putting into the house, right?

We're replacing carpet on the stairs and the hallway...

 The baby's room...
 and the guest room.
I gotta tell ya... the house smells 10 times better.  I mean, you can see a few dog stains here and there but just getting that stanky carpet out of our house is a HUGE improvement. (I feel bad for all the people that have had to stay in our house with that nasty smell.)  Thanks, former owners! Glad you could take the time to let your dog out once in awhile!!!! Oh wait, nope, you actually didn't.  Poor poor pup. :(

Andrew got a little surprise when he tore up the carpet in the baby's room.  The baby's room just happens to be the room where the former owner's teenage daughter lived.
She had hidden some notes underneath the carpet!! I wonder if she remembers leaving those there? Well anyway, now we have them and we know ALL HER SECRETS!! HAHA! We're gonna call her parents!! Just kidding. But these notes are hilarious. Typical teenage stuff.
I whited out a few things to protect the innocent.  But boy, do I remember being that age....
and I'm glad I don't have to go back! :)

So I know my brother Brandon has been waiting for this for months but I FINALLY broke out the Belly Painting Kit that he got me for my birthday back in August! Perfect for Halloween!

I should have posed in MY picture like this muchacha.  What in the heck is she looking at? And how photoshopped is that picture? Wow.
This picture is obviously not photoshopped.  Here is your Jack O'Lantern for Halloween! Andrew helped me on this one.  It's really hard to paint your own giant gut.

Stayed tuned for later in the week when I post my other painting masterpiece.
But for now, you'll just have to wait. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!

Oh and by the way for trick or treaters this year, we had about 7 kids and a horse. Not joking about the horse.

Painting... Birthday Celebrating... Showering

We accomplished quite a lot this weekend.  Friday night Adam and Steph came up to visit.  We went out to eat at Villa Macri and then went to see Jackass 3D.

I gagged... scratch that, dry-heaved, at several parts.  But the worst by far was the "Sweatsuit Cocktail".  Andrew almost ended up with barf in his lap.  He kept saying, "LOOK AWAY!" but I just couldn't.  I had to see what happened.

It was funny though because when we were telling my parents about it, I gagged again just thinking about it.
Probably looked a little something like this...

Ugh, gross.  But parts of it were very entertaining... and completely stupid.

Anyway, my parents came that night too after the the Bomber football game.  We were ready to get up nice and early to start painting the nursery.  Too bad we didn't start until 2ish.

But look at how FUN this looks!!

I really like the old color and new color together.  They're kinda fun!
But alas that wouldn't match our brown and blue turtles.  So we continued painting.
When six people are helping, it goes really fast.  The first coat was done in about an hour.
Dad did an excellent job with the ceiling! He has quite the steady hand.
Mom painted the closet.  It looks 10 times better.  Thank goodness!

The second coat took half the time and we were able to quit early to go to dinner.  It was Adam's birthday weekend!
(How nice that he wanted to spend it with us, painting! I think he has an ulterior motive.  He wants to break the record for youngest wakeboarder so I think he's lining up Baby T for that job. Watch out!)

So we went to Soho, a Japanese Bistro with hibachi tables.  According to Wikipedia, I should be saying Teppanyaki instead.  Whoops.  Anyway...

Here are Mom and Dad about to enjoy some FIIIIIIRE!!! The guy behind them lit the grill and Dad ducked like WHAT THE HELL??  Are they setting this place on FIRE?? It was pretty funny.
 Andrew and I, looking serious.
Andrew and I trying to photobomb Adam and Steph.
Then I decided to go it alone and photobomb Adam and Steph.  :)
My eyes don't cross like a normal... eleven year old.
ONION TOWER ON FIRE!!!! That onion tower was only two stories.  Kinda disappointing.
Here's our chef preparing our delicious meal.
This is the beer that Adam and Andrew decided to order.  Red Rice Beer.  YUM!
(Warning: It's actually disgusting and causes headaches the next day. Just thought I'd fill you in. Cool bottle though.)

Adam and Andrew decide to do a sake bomb.  Here's the video...

Adam won! But it was his birthday! Plus he's 6 years younger so he should win. :)
Then the chef heard that it was Adam's birthday so he decided to give him another sake shot... which ended up being like 3 shots.  He drooled a little on the carpet.  :)
And finally the Birthday Sundae! A Japanese pound cake with ice cream rolled into it and chocolate syrup and other stuff on top.  YUMMMMM!!!!

On Sunday, we had another shower in Warsaw.  It was lovely!

Look at how CUTE that tiny little Purdue jersey is!!! Awwww!! I told Andrew Baby T can wear it when Purdue goes to a bowl game this year!

Moving on... it was a shower for us and also Jess and Mike.  She is due a couple weeks before me.
It was fun to see her open cute girlie stuff.  There's been such a boy baby boom that I haven't gotten to see a whole lot of stuff for girls so that was exciting.
The shower was thrown by Andrew's parents group of friends which they call the Card Club. I had to post this picture of Andrew with the men from the Card Club.  They look completely enthused to be in my picture! Haha!

What a blessing this weekend was.  We were showered with gifts. Thank you again everyone! Plus we have a painted nursery thanks to the Keiper Paint Crew.  We are so lucky!!!

I know you are wondering where the finished nursery pictures are.  I apologize but I won't be posting the completed pictures of the nursery until we get our furniture AND carpeting.  That might be a week or two.  I'm sorry! It'll be worth the wait, I promise! :)
